Synopsis

As part of the Piano Concerts series within its Chamber Music Cycle, the Auditorio de Tenerife presents Mao Fujita in the recital De la claridad al fuego (From Clarity to Fire), featuring works by Mozart, Beethoven, Ravel, Glazunov, Debussy, Scriabin and Rachmaninoff.

Mao Fujita takes us on a journey through more than a century of music for the piano, from the clarity and balance of Classicism to the expressive intensity of late Romanticism and Modernism.

The programme opens with Mozart’s Rondo in F major, K. 494, whose elegance, inventiveness and luminous clarity set the tone for the recital. With Beethoven’s Sonata Op. 110, the piano enters a deeper, more introspective realm: the music moves between lyricism, drama and contemplation, already pointing towards new expressive horizons.

In the second half, the musical landscape is transformed. Ravel, with his Menuet antique, and Glazunov, with his Idyll, evoke worlds of refinement, nostalgia and beauty. With Debussy, colour and suggestion come to the fore: La plus que lente and Images, Book II transform the piano into a world of resonance, imagery and atmosphere, where sound seems to dissolve into colour and light.

The journey culminates with Scriabin and Rachmaninoff, two composers who push the expressive possibilities of the piano to ever greater heights of intensity and individuality. Scriabin’s Sonata No. 4 condenses into a remarkably brief span an extraordinary progression from mystery and yearning to momentum and ecstasy. Finally, Rachmaninoff’s Sonata No. 2, in its 1931 version, brings the programme to a close with music of immense emotional power, virtuosity and depth.

The recital thus traces an arc from clarity to fire, from form to colour, from contemplation to exuberance, revealing how, across different eras and musical languages, the piano can become a profound expression of the human imagination.
