La importancia de llamarse Candelaria
Synopsis
Artist Acerina Amador and her company will undertake an artistic residency at La Salita from 14 to 20 September 2026, culminating in a public presentation of their creative process entitled La importancia de llamarse Candelaria.
La importancia de llamarse Candelaria explores the various dimensions of devotion to the Virgin of Candelaria, examining evangelisation as a cultural practice and an instrument of colonisation, alongside the diverse strategies of everyday resistance developed by local and Indigenous communities.
In this second instalment of a trilogy exploring different forms of resistance among diverse communities, Acerina Amador and Fernando López harness their imagination to envision the future, questioning the continued operation of technologies of domination that exert power over our bodies, beliefs and territories.
Their artistic approaches converge in a shared vision of the stage as a social and political laboratory, where humour and sensitivity towards life underpin the theatrical experience.
