The Nivaria (Arafo), Arona, and San Sebastián (Tejina) wind bands take centre stage at this week's event

The wind bands Nivaria (Arafo), Arona, and San Sebastián (Tejina, La Laguna) will headline Sunday’s (April 19) Primavera Musical concert at 11:30 a.m. More than 145 musicians take to the stage in the Auditorio de Tenerife’s Chamber Hall. Entry is free until the total capacity is reached.

The concert will begin with the wind ensemble, Sociedad Filarmónica Nivaria, one of Tenerife’s most enduring musical groups, founded in 1860. Directed by Miguel Ángel Expósito Marrero, its 60 Arafo musicians will deliver a vibrant repertoire, opening with Bernardo Adam Ferrero’s Eugenia López, followed by Excalibur by José Alberto Pina and Fandango from Amadeo Vives’s zarzuela Doña Francisquita.

Juan Antonio Rancel directs the Banda de Música of Arona, which was formed in 1985 from a music academy in the municipality. This Sunday, the group arrives at Auditorio de Tenerife with forty members to perform two pieces: Rest by Frank Ticheli and Diagram by André Waignein.

This Sunday’s concert in the Chamber Hall will conclude with a performance by the wind band San Sebastián (Tejina, La Laguna), founded over 90 years ago and directed by Oswaldo Raiko Cruz González. The programme will begin with Lorencín Mendoza by Pascual Marquina, featuring Daniela Palmero as soloist, continue with Oregón by Jacob de Haan, and finish with Santana: A Portrait, arranged by Giancarlo Gazzani, with Saúl Báez as soloist.

The Tenerife Wind Bands Federation, in collaboration with the Tenerife Island Council, launched the concert cycle ‘Primavera Musical’ in 2005. The next Primavera Musical event takes place on 26th April, featuring performances by the wind bands Cruz Santa (Los Realejos), Princesa Yaiza (El Rosario), and Alcaraván (San Juan de la Rambla).
