BRUCE LIU

Bruce Liu was the winner of First Prize at the 18th International Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw in 2021, and has established himself as one of the most compelling pianists of his generation. Widely admired for his dazzling technique intellectual curiosity and artistic imagination, he combines what The New York Times has described as an ‘agile versatility’.

In great international demand, Liu has appeared with many of the world’s foremost orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the Philadelphia Orchestra and the Wiener Symphoniker, collaborating with conductors such as Paavo Järvi, Yannick Nézet-Séguin, Sir Antonio Pappano, Lahav Shani and Dalia Stasevska.

The summer 2025 marks his eagerly awaited BBC Proms debut with the Philharmonia Orchestra under Santtu-Matias Rouvali. The pianist also appears with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Marin Alsop at Ravinia, and tours Europe with the NCPA Orchestra and Myung-Whun Chung, as well as with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra under Vasily Petrenko.

Highlights of the 2025/26 season include major international tours of Japan with the Bavarian State Opera Orchestra and Vladimir Jurowski; China with the Staatskapelle Dresden and Daniele Gatti; and Germany, Austria, Belgium and France with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and Kazuki Yamada. As Artist-in-Residence with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, Liu appears throughout the season in collaborations with Franz Welser-Möst and Gustavo Gimeno.

A distinguished recitalist, Liu has performed at leading venues including Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Wigmore Hall and the Philharmonie de Paris. During the 2025/26 season, he makes his recital debuts at the Berlin Philharmonie and the Opéra de Lyon, while returning to Carnegie Hall, the Vienna Musikverein and major halls in Italy and Japan. He appears at international festivals including Edinburgh, Klavier-Festival Ruhr, Verbier, La Roque-d’Anthéron, Rheingau and Tanglewood.

An exclusive Deutsche Grammophon artist, Liu was named ‘Young Talent of the Year’ at the Opus Klassik in 2024 for his debut studio album, Waves. Bruce Liu’s second studio album is devoted to Tchaikovsky’s ‘The Seasons’ and was released in November 2024 to widespread critical acclaim.

Born in Paris and raised in Montreal, Liu draws on a multicultural heritage that blends European refinement, North American dynamism and the enduring traditions of Chinese culture. He studied with Richard Raymond and Dang Thai Son.
