Conductor Pablo González brings the 2025-26 season to a close with a programme that shows that the most significant artistic expression is not always shouted but may be softly whispered.
The extraordinary violinist Frank Peter Zimmermann interprets Beethoven’s Violin Concerto in D major, a work characterised by its pure melodic lines, constant dialogue with the orchestra and virtuosity tempered by serene beauty. More than an exhibition of skill, it is a musical reflection on world harmony.
Next on the programme is soprano Jone Martínez as soloist in Mahler’s Symphony No. 4, with its connotations of a transparent, infantile wonderland. Contrasting with the dramatism of his other symphonic works, Mahler’s Fourth Symphony begins with joyousness, dwelling on the contemplation of time and culminating with the voice of a child who sings of a heavenly vision of warm tranquillity. Standing out in the universe of Mahler, the work expresses innocence and eternity interlaced with unusual tenderness.
