Under the baton of conductor Jaume Santonja, the Sinfónica de Tenerife gives spectators another example of revolutionary work.
The overture of Wagner’s Tannhäuser redefined the relationship between music and drama. Here, the orchestra not only accompanies but breathes and narrates, heralding a new concept of theatrical symphonism.
Next, the acclaimed pianist Nelson Goerner takes the stage with Schumann’s Piano Concerto in A minor. In this luminous work, romantic passion is balanced with unmistakable tenderness and a touch of fantasy.
The programme ends with another of Strauss’ symphonic poems: Aus Italien. In this piece, the young composer sought musical inspiration in the Italian countryside, opening up the orchestra’s possibilities with the descriptive freedom that would characterise his life’s work.
