Deserto
Synopsis
La Salita presents Deserto by the Polifônica theatre company. The performance is in Brazilian Portuguese with Spanish surtitles. Friday’s opening performance will be followed by a discussion with the audience.
Director and playwright Luiz Felipe Reis brings Deserto to the Autumn Festival, a Brazilian production inspired by the literary world of Chilean writer Roberto Bolaño. The piece explores an expanded form of theatre in which drama, literature, music, imagery and performance intertwine to create a distinctive narrative language. Rather than adapting Bolaño’s work, the production deconstructs and rewrites it for the stage, drawing on fragments from his novels, interviews and other texts.
On stage, actor Rodrigo Bolzan embodies the many facets of Bolaño’s voice in an exploration of memory and fiction, poetry and politics.
Deserto continues Luiz Felipe Reis’s exploration of theatrical forms that challenge conventional approaches to performance.
