La canción del destino

Concert A14 by the Sinfónica de Tenerife
1 Shows
07 May 19:30
Music/Sinfónica de Tenerife
 Auditorio de Tenerife (Symphony Hall)

Synopsis

This concert embodies the theme Libertad o destino (Freedom or Fate) with particular clarity. Beethoven opens the programme with Egmont, music of resistance against oppression, in which individual tragedy becomes a catalyst for emancipation. Next, Calm Sea and Happy Voyage transforms the stillness of the windless sea into movement, breath and arrival: a small musical allegory of the journey from paralysis to freedom.

In The Song of Fate, Brahms confronts one of the great questions of Romanticism. Drawing on Hölderlin’s poem, he contrasts the serenity of the gods with the human condition, subject to suffering, time and decline. The Comunidad de Madrid Choir will give voice to this work of suspended beauty and profound melancholy.

The second half is devoted to Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 6, ‘Pathetique’—an intense, confessional and devastating score, in which fate ceases to be an abstract idea and becomes breath, body and farewell.

Conducted by Pablo González, this programme will also mark the return of the Sinfónica de Tenerife to Madrid’s Auditorio Nacional de Música, in an artistic collaboration with the Comunidad de Madrid Choir.
