Salsa sinfónica
Synopsis
As Tenerife prepares for its world-famous carnival, the Sinfónica de Tenerife joins in the festive spirit with a programme that takes classical music across the Atlantic to mingle with the rhythms of the Caribbean.
The quintet Klazz Brothers & Cuba Percussion is internationally acclaimed for its fusion of classical music, jazz, and Afro-Cuban rhythms, as well as its ability to transform masterpieces of the European repertoire, with results such as Mozart with maracas, Beethoven set to salsa, and Tchaikovsky with Latin percussion.
With conductor Isabel Rubio, the programme invites spectators to enjoy music from a fresh perspective, forego divisions between genres and redefine tradition as something alive, flexible and brimming with possibilities. As one might expect, the music overflows its confines, and the theatre seating becomes oddly inappropriate. Some concerts are for listening, and some are for dancing!
