Segunda de Mahler
Synopsis
The 2026–2027 season of the Sinfónica de Tenerife, Libertad o destino (Freedom or Fate) begins on 11 September with a work that seems to hold within it all of humanity’s great questions—death, loss, memory, the Last Judgement, hope and the possibility of beginning anew.
Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 2, Resurrection, begins with a funerary impulse and builds towards one of the most profoundly moving choral climaxes ever composed. More than a monumental symphony, it is a spiritual and emotional journey in which the orchestra becomes the arena for an inner struggle. Confronted with humanity’s ultimate fate, Mahler responds with music of overwhelming scale: music that acknowledges suffering and transforms it into affirmation.
Pablo González, Principal Guest Conductor of the Sinfónica de Tenerife, opens the season with one of the great works of the symphonic repertoire, joined by Berna Perles, Olesya Petrova and the Ópera de Tenerife–Intermezzo Choir. The season begins on a threshold: where everything seems to end, music imagines the possibility of resurrection.
