Variaciones Enigma

This concert explores music creation, identity and memory. Samuel Barber’s Adagio for Strings opens the evening with one of the twentieth century’s most moving works. Its place in the season highlights a fundamental idea: freedom also lies in broadening the repertoire, listening to new voices and allowing the music of our time to enter into dialogue with the great masterpieces of the past.

Next, the Kebyart Ensemble performs Philip Glass’s Concerto for Saxophone Quartet, a work in which pulsating rhythms, luminous harmonies and vibrant timbres create a hypnotic musical landscape. Rather than standing apart from the orchestra, the quartet enters into a fluid dialogue with it, propelled by a constant dialogue, movement and energy.

The programme concludes with Edward Elgar’s Enigma Variations. Each variation portrays someone close to the composer while preserving an element of mystery. Within the Freedom or Fate season, the work explores freedom through identity, emotion and collective memory.

Giancarlo Guerrero returns to lead the Sinfónica de Tenerife with a programme of profound emotional resonance.
