The choir Coro de la Comunidad de Madrid has distinguished itself since its creation in 1984, on the initiative of the Cultural Department of Madrid. It is recognised as one of the best and most dynamic Spanish choirs for its versatile activities, such as a-cappella concerts and concerts with orchestras, and its ongoing participation in the lyric stage and recording studios. Its growing prestige has driven it to sing in the most important Spanish stages and international auditoriums. The critics have always highlighted the "high quality of their voices and the calibrated blend of the ensemble." Germany, Belgium, France, Poland, China, Japan, Morocco, Mexico, and Yugoslavia are some of the countries where they have sung.
His first director, Miguel Groba, established from the very beginning the imprint of the Coro de la Comunidad de Madrid. By this means, he consolidated the ensemble and established its soundness and prestige. From 2000 to 2011, Jordi Casas Bayer continued this task and extended its repertoire to cover today’s polyphony and pieces from the Renaissance to the present time. Noteworthy is the global première of many works by composers such as Román Alís, Alfredo Aracil, Antón García Abril, Cristóbal Halffter, Carmelo Bernaola, Tomás Marco, Ángel Oliver, Claudio Prieto, José Luis Turina, and Luis de Pablo. In 2012, the Portuguese master Pedro Teixeira took over the direction until 2017. Josep Vila i Casañas has been its artistic director since September 2022.
Regarding the choral-symphonic repertoire, the choir has collaborated on a regular basis with the Orchestra of the Community of Madrid and other orchestras such as the Symphony Orchestra of Madrid, the Spanish Radio and Television Orchestra, the Spanish National Orchestra, the Symphony Orchestra of Galicia, the Orchestra Ciudad de Granada, the one from Cordoba, Brazil, the Young Orchestra of the German Federal Republic, the Russian National Orchestra, the Bach Akademie, the Mahler Chamber Orchestra and the Arnold Schoenberg Choir.
As for the stage, it stands out in the collaborations with the Teatro Real, where it has participated in co-productions like Fidelio under the direction of Claudio Abbado. It is worth highlighting its presence in the Teatros del Canal (Viva Madrid), in the Teatro Auditorio San Lorenzo de El Escorial (Carmen, Tosca, the Barber of Seville, the Magic Flute)
