Compañía Criolla
The theatrical troupe Compañía Criolla is well known for its reformulations of classic works, bringing them closer to new audiences and making them shine anew in the context of modern society. Three examples are ‘Romeo y Julieta de bolsillo’, ‘Cyrano de más acá’ and ‘La comedia de los Herrores’. In this sense, the troupe's latest project draws on Shakespeare's most magical and entertaining comedy: 'In this version, four actors play all the characters of the original work in a veritable whirlwind packed with onstage resources, physical action, poetry and abundant humour. The troupe, founded in Buenos Aires in 2009, has offered the public shows such as 'El Brote', ‘Huesito Caracú', ‘Recuerdos a la hora de la siesta’, ‘El puente Azul’, ‘El apego’, ‘Los mounstruos’, ‘Ojos que no ven‘, and ‘Perderte otra vez’ and has received multiple accolades in Argentina and abroad: A.C.E, Teatro del mundo, Maria Guerrero, A.T.I.N.A Baroque theatre competition, (Almagro Spain), Florencio Sanchez (Uruguay) and Hugo. Compañía Criolla participates in dozens of cultural events, including theatre festivals, conferences, art fairs and official cycles. Since 2013, it has been actively involved in the ‘Itinerant Theatre’ programme, performing its plays at schools, prisons, neighbourhood events, centres for the disabled, and nursing homes. The troupe also offers its own artistic training initiatives, held at institutions in the home country and abroad.
