Centro Internacional de Danza Tenerife
Founded in 1972 by Rosalina Ripoll as Academia Giselle, the centre underwent restructuring with the arrival of Miguel Navarro in 1979, when it became Centro Internacional de Danza Tenerife (CIDT). Since then, it has been a point of reference for dance in the Canary Islands, where many dancers have received training. It is also the main pool of talent of the island’s most respected professional dance troupe, Ballets de Tenerife. Its founders received instruction at Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona and went on to study with renowned masters and in international troupes. They have always based their teaching methods on observance of the rules of classical ballet, which are considered the bedrock of any dance discipline. With this premise, they have taught not only the basics of classical dance but also the elegance and good taste inherent to this art form. Since 1996, the centre has been the island’s only authorised Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports of the Canary Islands Government dance school to teach elementary-level classical dance. After completing his studies and returning to the island, Héctor Navarro joined the centre’s teaching staff, bringing his experience and broadening the centre's multidisciplinary training for dancers. In 2022, coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the centre's founding, he was appointed its director and committed to continuing to take dance to every corner of the island.
