Hamlet
Synopsis
Ópera de Tenerife presents Ambroise Thomas’ Hamlet in a French production that recasts this Shakespearian tragedy as an opera in five acts.
Hamlet and Ophélie live in a court where brazen corruption masquerades as protocol and polite behaviour. Everyone knows something, and everyone is hiding something. He is torn between the obligation of seeking revenge and the horror of exacting it; she is lost in the inability to be heard. Here, silence is not an absence of words but a surfeit of lies, half-truths and manipulations. This parallels our times, in which the overload of information coexists with the lack of confidence and of actual listening. Among ghosts, intrigues and interior monologues, the world feels vast and silent.
This opera will be performed with singing in French and overtitles in Spanish and English.
