George Li

Praised by the Washington Post for combining "staggering technical prowess, a sense of command and depth of expression", pianist George Li is a brilliant virtuoso of effortless grace despite his age. He won the Silver Medal at Tchaikovsky International Competition in 2015 and was granted the Avery Fisher Career Grant in 2016.

His recent and future engagements include performances with Gustavo Dudamel and Los Angeles Philharmonic, Michael Tilson Thomas and San Francisco Symphony, Hamburg  Philharmonic with Manfred Honeck, an Asian tour with London Symphony Orchestra and Giandrea Noseda, St Petersburg Philharmonic with Yuri Temirkanov, Philharmonia Orchestra with Long Yu, Oslo Philharmonic, Lyon National Orchestra, Rotterdam Philharmonic, Mälmo Symphony, Verbier Festival Orchestra, Berlin DSO, Seattle Symphony, Utah Symphony, Sidney Symphony Orchestra and Radio Frankfurt Symphony. He often works with Valery Gergiev Mariinsky Orchestra, including performances with Paris Philharmonic, Luxemburg Philharmonic, Brooklyn Academy of Music in New York, Graffenegg Festival and different venues in Russia.

Outstanding moments in his career include performances at Carnegie Hall, Davies Hall in San Francisco, Mariinsky Theatre, Gasteig in Munich, Louvre, Seoul Arts Centre, Asahi Hall and Musashino Hall in Tokyo, NCPA Beijing, Ravinia Festival, Lanaudiere Festival, Edimburg Festival and Montreaux Festival.

He is also very active as a chamber pianist and has played with James Ehnes, Noah Bendix-Balgley, Benjamin Beilman, Kian Soltani, Pablo Ferrandez and Daniel Lozakovich.

George is an exclusive recording artist to Warner Classics; his debut album, launched in October 2017, was recorded live in Mariinsky.

George Li gave his first public performance at the age of ten at Boston Steinway Hall and in 2011 he played for president Obama at the White House at a dinner in honour of German chancellor Angela Merkel. George’s many awards include First Prize at the international audition 2010 Young Concert Artists and Gilmore Young Artist 2012. George is currently following the joint programme of Harvard University / New England Conservatoire, where he studies with Wha Kyung Byun.
