Javier Laso

Piano

Born in Fribourg, Switzerland in 1975, he studied at the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Salamanca with Juan José Diego and graduated with a “Premio Extraordinario de Piano”. He later moved to Budapest where for five years he studied at the Franz Liszt Academy with Rita Wagner, Péter Nagy and Férenc Rados.

He received different grants from the Fundación Caixa Girona, Fundación Isaac Albéniz, the Spanish Ministry of Culture, Fundación Caja Duero, to broaden his studies with Dimitri Bashkirov (Escuela Superior Reina Sofía, Madrid), Joaquín Achúcarro (Dallas Methodist University), Ramsi Yassa (École Normale, Paris), Josep Colóm ( Liceu de Barcelona) among many others.

He has won several awards in different competitions like Frechilla-Zuloaga (Valladolid),  María Canals  ( Barcelona) and First Prize and Extraordinary Prize at Gran Canaria’s Pedro Espinosa competiton.

He performed as soloist at the “Monuments en Musique” Festival in Aix-en Provence (France), the “Festival de Torroella de Montgrí” (Girona) or the “Ciclo Internacional de Solistas”( Salamanca), Festival de Música Contemporánea ( Tenerife).

He has collaborated as soloist with the Orquesta Sinfónica de Castilla-León, Orquesta de Cámara del teatro Bolshoi, Orquesta Sinfónica de Cartagena, Orquesta Sinfónica de Sant Cugat, Orquesta Joven de Salamanca, under the baton of Max Bragado, Leonid Lundstrem, José M. Vicente, Álvaro Lozano and Josep Ferré.

His recordings include works by Scriabin, Schubert, Debussy and Bartok (RNE), M. Bonín’s sonatas with violinist José Luis Gómez Ríos or J.S Bach’s Goldberg Variations.

He has been a teacher at Conservatorio Superior de Música de Salamanca and teaches piano at the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Canarias since 2001.
