Julia Gartemann

Viola

Julia Gartemann was born in 1975 in Münster (Germany), and has been a member of the Berliner Philharmoniker since 2000.

She studied with Nobuko Imai at the Hochschule für Musik in Detmold (Germany), as well as in Philadelphia (USA) with Michael Tree and Karen Tuttle at the prestigious Curtis Institute of Music.

She has received numerous awards and scholarships from institutions such as the German Musikleben Foundation, the Jürgen-Ponto Foundation and the German National Merit Foundation.

Julia Gartemann performs regularly as a soloist and chamber musician both in Germany and abroad. She is a regular guest at important festivals such as the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, the Lucerne and Gstaad Festivals and the Salzburg Festival.

For several years she has been teaching viola at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler in Berlin.

Julia Gartemann plays a Carlo Ferdinando Landolfi viola built in 1767.
