The Korngold Ensemble Wien was founded in 2019 by five renowned musicians who have been devoted to chamber music for several years. The intention of the group, beyond interpreting the standard repertoire, is to perform pieces that are listened to less often, with a special emphasis on the 20th century, a particularly rich century in this musical genre.
Since forming recently, the Korngold Ensemble Wien has been invited to important music festivals in Austria, Spain, Hungary, and Taiwan, including concerts at the Arnold Schönberg Center Vienna, the Vienna Chamber Festival at Schloss Laudon, the Festival of classical music at Burghof in Klagenfurt, Musik im Schloss Hunyadi, Schlosskonzerte Gleinstätten, Erich W. Korngold Festival in Budapest, Hungary, the Chamber Music Cycle in Tenerife, the Chamber Music Cycle of the Conservatoire d'Orléans, the Chamber Music Series in Malaga, the Festival Kittseen Burgenland, Austria, and at Wei Wu Yin, the National Kaohsiung Centre for the Arts in the city of Kaohsiung, Taiwan.
Catalina Butcaru, piano
The Romanian-born pianist studied at the Music Academies in Vienna and Graz with Prof. Jürg von Vintschger and Prof. Alexandr Satz, as well as with Meira Farkas and Elisabeth Leonskaja.
Performances as a soloist and chamber musician in the series Musica Juventutits at the Wiener Konzerthaus and at the ORF Radiokulturhaus were followed by invitations to the Philharmonie Luxembourg, the Romanian Atheneum and the Broadcast Concert Hall in Bucharest, the Liszt Center in Raiding, the Muth in Vienna, the Ehrbar Hall in Vienna, Esterhazy Palace in Eisenstadt, the Martinu Hall in Prague, and more. Catalina Butcarus first solo CD, recorded at Wigmore Hall and released by Divine Art-Diversions, attracted international attention and was critically acclaimed. Many successful projects brought Catalina Butcaru together with musicians like Volkhard Steude, concertmaster of the Vienna Philharmonic, Valentin Erben, cellist of the “Alban Berg” quartet, violinist Emmanuel Tjeknavorian, etc.
Ludwig Mueller, violin
Since 1986 he has been the concertmaster of the Vienna Chamber Orchestra and since 1992 of the Orquestra de Cadaques. As a guest concermaster he is regularly invited by the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, the BBC Symphony Orchestra, the OBC Barcelona, the Orquestra de Castilla y León and the Orquestra Gulbenkian. He is also the 1st violin of th Aron Quartet Vienna.
Tiffany Pei Hsuan Wu, violin
Taiwanese violinist Tiffany Pei Hsuan Wu has performed as a soloist in Taiwan, China, Russia, Italy and Argentina with Kaohsiung Symphony Orchestra, Russian Philharmonic Orchestra, Voronezh Philharmonic Orchestra, Tianjin Symohony Orchestra, Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra, Argentina National Symphony Orchestra under the baton such as Chiu Shen Chen, Shu Shi Chen, Erich Kunzel, Zdenêk Mácal, Emir Saul, Vladimir Verbitsky, etc. As an active chamber musician, Ms. Wu has performed in Canada, Austria, Germany, Taiwan, and Argentina.

Cynthia Liao, viola
The Austrian-Taiwanese viola player and composer is member of Korngold Ensemble Wien and Principal Viola of Vienna Chamber Orchestra. With her non-classic radio.string.quartet she plays in major concert halls and festivals in the whole world. Beside concerts and composing she also gives master classes. Ms. Liao-Zottl plays a viola of Ludovicus Gersan (Paris, 1770) and Thomastik-Infeld Strings.
Jonas Krejci, cello
Member of the Pražák Quartet and principal cellist of the Vienna Chamber Orchestra. As a member first of the Škampa Quarter and then of the Petersen Quartet and the Schulhoff Quartet, he has performed in important concert halls around the world, such as the Carnegie Hall and the Lincoln Center Nueva York, the Berlin Philharmonic, the Musikverein and Konzerthaus of Vienna, and he was Artist in Residence at the Wigmore Hall in London.
