Macarena Pesutic

Macarena Pesutic was the winner of the RWE Competition in Leipzig (Germany) and is a two-time winner of the ‘Music Teachers National Association’ Competition (United States).

She has performed as a soloist with the Concepción Symphony Orchestra (Bela Bartok concert), the Orchestra of the Higher Music Conservatory of the Canary Islands and the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra. She has been a guest at festivals such as ‘Academie Internationale d'eté de Nice’ (France), ‘The International Musicians Seminar’ (UK), ‘Kneisel Hall Chamber Music Festival’ and ‘Apple Hill Chamber Music Festival’ (USA), ‘Holland Music Sessions’ (The Netherlands), ‘Kuhmo Chamber Music Festival’ (Finland), ‘Thy Chamber Music Festival’ (Denmark). She has received masterclasses from Thomas Riebl, Wolfram Christ, Wladimir Mendelssohn, Hariof Schlichtig, Aaron Rosand, Tibor Varga, Christophe Poppen, Ferenc Rados, Hans Dittrich Klaus, Cuarteto Vermeer and Cuarteto Juilliard. Her work with Eberhart Feltz particularly marked her training as a chamber music performer.

She began her violin studies in Chile with Américo Guisti, Jaime de la Jara and Alberto Dourthé Abbé. She undertook advanced violin studies with Patricio Cobos and chamber music with Manuel Díaz at Columbus University (USA). She obtained degrees in performance, chamber music and pedagogy with the highest grades at the ‘Hochschule für Musik Detmold’, under the supervision of Nobuko Imai. She completed her instrumental studies with the ‘Konzertexamen’ degree at the ‘Hochschule für Musik Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy’ with professor Tatiana Masurenko.

She has been a professor of the chair in viola at the Higher Music Conservatory of the Canary Islands since 2005. Recent engagements include piano concerts and programmes of chamber music organised by Quantum Ensemble, ATADEM, the Nino Díaz Foundation and Círculo de Bellas Artes of Tenerife, among others. She was a resident artist at the Ateneo La Laguna during the 2019-20 season and she has held the position of artistic director of the Tenerife Viola masterclass since 2017.

Macarena plays a German viola by an anonymous maker, dated 1750.
