Nova Galega de Danza is the result of a process that began in 1998 when the dancers Vicente Colomer and Jaime P. Díaz reached their artistic and professional maturity and decided to combine their efforts. They searched for new forms of expression that blend the Galician folk tradition with contemporary dance. Together, and thanks to Sinerxias, they won the Second Prize at the I Choreographic Creation Competition of Galicia, the Fourth Prize at the I Dance Marathon of Madrid, and they were finalists at the National Spanish Dance and Flamenco Competition of 2002.
But the world would have to wait until 2003 to see the first full production by the new group, entitled Alento, which was followed by Engado (2006), Tradicción (2008), Dez (2013) and Son (2016).
Nova Galega de Danza fuses live dance and music from Galicia, tradition, and modernity with a universal vocation. "They came in like a fresh wind, smelling of the sea breeze (...). We must not lose sight of them; the Spanish Celtic tradition lacked this renewal in its dance – a renewal that had already taken place in terms of its music." (Ana Cabo. Director of the Madrid en Danza Dance Festival. “Por la Danza” Magazine, 2003)
