A group inevitably influenced by the intense electronic music scene of Vienna. The city is currently an open creative home for many composers and innovators within the field of experimental music and the members of Radian have been pillars of that community since the first decade of the 2000´s.
The juxtaposition of extremes can be seen in the work of Radian: the contrast between light and darkness; and in musical terms, sound and silence and shine/darkness of the timbre. This group creates a field of tension between the extreme dynamic, the freely improvised parts and meticulous construction, an inherent contrast between harmonic sounds and clear recordings. The creative and recording process of Radian plays a central role in the configuration of the pieces. It is a dual process of creating material through improvisation, sound and processing experiments on one hand, and a painstaking routine of selecting and editing this material on the other. Normally, they tend to use mere fragments of hours of sound material. The contrast between the magic of the moment, the direct live playing and its subsequent construction define the quality of the pieces.
The group is formed by:
- Martin Brandlmayr: Drums and electronics
- John Norman: Bass
- Martin Siewert: Guitar and electronics
