Tenerife soprano Raquel Lojendio is one of the most important voices on the current lyrical scene. Her versatility enables her to tackle both the oratorio and lied repertoires, and those of zarzuela and opera.
She has been a guest performer with the main orchestras in our country and many orchestras abroad: Berliner Philharmoniker, BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, Seattle Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della Rai de Torino, Bergen Filharmoniske Orkester, Dresdner Philharmonie, Hamburger Symphoniker, Boston Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse, Orchestra “Giuseppe Verdi de Trieste”, among many others.
She has worked with important conductors as renowned as Sir Neville Marriner, Frühbeck de Burgos, Gianluigi Gelmetti, Juanjo Mena, Jun Märkl, Antoni Witt, López-Cobos, Gómez Martínez, García-Calvo, Victor Pablo Pérez, Jiri Kout, Christian Zacharias, Ros Marbà, Vasily Petrenko, Rus Brosseta…
Raquel Lojendio is an excellent performer of Oratorio and Lied, and her extensive repertoire notably includes: Requiem by Mozart, Die Schöpfung by Haydn, Beethoven's 9th Symphony, Ein Deutsches Requiem by Brahms, Mahler's Symphonies 2, 4 and 8, Vier letzte Lieder by R. Strauss, The Three-Cornered Hat by Manuel de Falla, the Symphony 14 by Shostakovich, Les Noces by Stravinsky, Muero porque no muero by Menotti, Bachianas Brasileiras by Villalobos, Maria-Trypticon by F. Martin, Les Illuminations by Britten, performing on stages such as the Berliner Philharmonie, the Tanglewood Festival, the Manchester Bridgewater Hall, the Beranova Hall, the George Enescu Festival, the Bergen Grieg Hall, the Halle aux Grains de Toulouse and the Teatro Colón in Bogotá.
In the Spanish lyrical genre she has tackled titles such as: A Midsummer Night's Dream by Gaztambide, Las Golondrinas by Usandizaga, San Antonio de la Florida by Albéniz, and El Caserío by Guridi, which she recently performed at the Teatro de la Zarzuela, under the musical direction of the maestro Juanjo Mena, which enjoyed great success with both the public and critics. She has also just played the leading role in the premiere of La amnesia de Clío by Fernando Buide.
Recent and upcoming commitments include opera roles such as Morgana in Alcina (Händel), Pamina in Die Zauberflöte and Donna Anna in Don Giovanni (Mozart), Marguerite in Faust (Gounod), Violetta in La Traviata and Alice Ford in Falstaff (Verdi), Sour Angelica and Lauretta in Il Trittico and Mimi in La Bohème (Puccini), at the Teatro Verdi in Trieste, the Teatro Real in Madrid, the Teatro de la Maestranza in Seville, the Teatro Cervantes in Malaga and the Ópera de Tenerife. Also, she will play the role of Sieglinde in Die Walküre at the San Sebastián Music Fortnight.
She has recorded for the labels Deutsche Grammophon, Chandos and IBS Classical.
Raquel Lojendio studied at the Higher Conservatoire in her home city, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, and at the Higher Music Conservatory Liceu in Barcelona with Carmen Bustamante. Sshe has received refinement classes from María Orán and Krisztina Laki.
She trained as a classical ballet dancer at the Royal Academy of Dance in London.
