Sonido extremo
Ensemble
The ensemble Sonido Extremo is a group of musicians committed to disseminating culture and art through music. Based in Extremadura, the group defines its activity in the context of reflection on the abundance of multiple musical languages that coexist at this time. The restless minds of the ensemble's members are also focused on that plurality and on the combination of these musical languages in relation to concepts or ideas that comprise the works, constituting an auditory itinerary. Since its creation in 2009, the ensemble has performed at some of the most important cycles and festivals in Spain and abroad: Ciclo de la Fundación BBVA in Bilbao, Series 20/21 of the CNDM in Madrid, Quincena Musical Donostiarra, Festival Internacional of Santander, Colegio de España in Paris, Festival Ensems in Valencia, the season of E.S.M. in Lisbon, Ciclo de Música Actual in Badajoz, Jornadas de Música Contemporánea in Segovia, Xornadas de Música Contemporánea in Santiago de Compostela, Festival del Museo Vostell and Festival Moderna in Valencia. The group has premiered over 60 works, collaborating closely with composers such as José Río-Pareja, Inés Badalo, Jesús Rueda, and Mikel Urquiza. Its engagements during the 2023/24 season include the world premiere of the opera ‘La Paz Perpetua’, with the music of composer José Río-Pareja and libretto by playwright Juan Mayorga; concerts jointly produced by CNDM in Madrid (Series 20/21), Badajoz (XV Ciclo de Música Actual), and Segovia (XXXI Jornadas de Música Contemporánea); and performances at the chamber-music cycle of the Auditorio de Tenerife and at the Festival Internacional de Santander. These engagements are to feature prestigious artists such as countertenor Xavier Sabata and soprano Rocío Pérez. It should be noted that Sonido Extremo has been critically acclaimed for the habitually high quality of its interpretations and for its originality, its fearless exposure to risk, and the coherence of its endeavours.Jordi Francés is the group's art and music director.
