Combining verse, dance and visual poetry, this cabaret reworks texts by Calderón de la Barca, Lope de Vega and other writers.
This weekend, La Salita is scheduling La jácara de los cuerpos imposibles, by dancer, actor and choreographer Alberto Velasco. This reinterpretation of the Spanish Golden Age will be performed at the Auditorio de Tenerife’s theatre space on Friday 26 and Saturday 27 at 7.30 p.m., and on Sunday 28 at 12 noon. After the performance on Friday the 26th, there will be a talk with the public.
Conceived, directed and choreographed by Alberto Velasco, La jácara de los cuerpos imposibles, with dramaturgy by Ruth Rubio, unfolds as a playful cabaret of verse, dance and visual poetry, shining a light on bodies traditionally excluded from Spanish Golden Age narratives. For Velasco, ‘although these stories have all manner of rich and beautiful diversity, they have always been told under the weight of rules, sweeping what is different under the rug’.
The production bridges past and future, celebrating diversity in verse while illuminating what has long remained in the shadows of the norm. La jácara de los cuerpos imposibles is woven from scenes by Calderón de la Barca, Ana Caro de Mallén, Guillén de Castro, Pérez de Montalbán and Lope de Vega. Velasco performs alongside Lucía Arestegui and Joan Galo. Historically, the jácara was a popular satirical form staged as an interlude in Spanish Golden Age comedias.
The tickets can be purchased at a single price of €8 and €5 for audiences under 30 on the website www.auditoriodetenerife.com, at the auditorium’s box office, or by dialling the phone number 902 317 327 from Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Alberto Velasco will also appear at the Auditorio de Tenerife with the workshop El temblor and the outdoor piece Mover montañas, scheduled for Wednesday 1 July at 6 p.m. on the Auditorio’s forecourt as part of MAPAS 26.
