The bands participating in this last day come from El Sauzal, Santiago del Teide, and Icod de los Vinos.
This Sunday [18th], at 11:30 a.m., the Auditorio de Tenerife hosts the last concert of the "Primavera Musical" cycle, with the performance of the wind bands San Pedro (El Sauzal), Santiago del Teide, and José Manuel Cabrera Mejías (Icod de los Vinos). This cultural activity started in 2005 as an initiative by the federation 'Federación Tinerfeña de Bandas de Música' and since then it has had the collaboration of the Tenerife Island Council. This year, 36 groups performed in the Chamber Hall.
The wind band San Pedro from El Sauzal starts Sunday's concert. The performance, directed by Francisco Jairo Cabrera Estévez, will start with Medley Boleros I, with arrangements by José Molina, followed by the Pasodoble Impressions, by Ernesto García Climent, Torrents of Fire, by Larry Neeck, to conclude with Coldplay on stage, arranged by Michael Brown.
Four pieces will also be performed by the Santiago del Teide music band. They will start with African Symphony, by Van McCoy and arrangements by Naohiro Iwai, followed by Destellos del alba, by Ferrer Ferrán, Rhapsody for Euphonium, by James Curnow, and El Cumbanchero, by Rafael Hernández, arranged by Naohiro Iwai. The band will be conducted by Jorge Pujol Fumero.
The band José Manuel Cabrera Mejías, from Icod de los Vinos, will be in charge of closing this year's edition of Primavera Musical. Juan Alexis González Rodríguez will direct the musicians with a repertoire that starts with Pacific Dreams, by Jacob de Haan, followed by Hindenburg, by Michael Geisler, and the Pasodoble Consuelo Císcar, by Ferrer Ferrán.
The Italian musicians Paolo Oreni and Alessandro Marangoni will play on Sunday the programme ˋDe Bach a Gershwinˊ (From Bach to Gershwin)
The Auditorio de Tenerife has programmed for next Sunday at 12 noon a symphonic organ and piano concert, featuring the Italian musicians Paolo Oreni (organ) and Alessandro Marangoni (piano), who will play De Bach a Gershwin (From Bach a Gershwin) in the Symphony Hall.
The programme includes an unusual combination of piano and organ, which will play together like chamber and symphonic music at the same time, exploring all the timbric and colour possibilities of both instruments. The programme begins with Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750) and the Concerto BWV 1685 in the Busoni version to move on to two pieces from the great solo piano repertoire by Frédéric Chopin (1810-1849) with the Scherzo No. 2. It will continue with the organ through the Prometheus of Liszt, in the version by Jean Guillou, a maestro of Paolo Oreni who has also played the organ of the Auditorio de Tenerife.
The Italian composer Carlo Galante (1959) has written Gioachiniana, a work dedicated to the duo Marangoni-Oreni on themes by Rossini: concert arias for the audience with a Spanish ending, in which both instruments play a single instrument. The concert concludes with the famous Rhapsody in Blue by Gershwin in a transcription for piano and organ by Marangoni and Oreni. These musicians are trying to bring back the repertoire for piano and organ, and even commission contemporary composers to create new compositions for this duo.
Paolo Oreni was born in 1979 and began his musical studies with the organ at the age of 11 with Walter Zaramella at the Gaetano Donizetti Institute of Music Studies. In 2000 he received a scholarship from the Ministry of Culture of Luxembourg and the Cooperative Credit Bank of Treviglio and moved to Luxembourg where he won First Place in the "Prix Interrégional-Diplôme de Concert" International Competition (2002). A crucial moment in his career was meeting the maestro Jean Guillou at the master classes he attended in Paris and in Zurich.
He has won several awards at international competitions, including an Honourable Mention at the Ville de Paris Competition in 2004. He has also played at the Scala de Milan and with orchestras such as the Verdi Symphonic Orchestra in Milan, the Jeune Orchestre in Paris, The Chamber Orchestra in Bolzano, the Symphonisches Orchester in Zurich and the Bochumer Symphoniker. He works intensely as a soloist and with orchestras and chamber groups, with over 100 concerts a year at the world's most important auditoriums and churches. Since 2006 he has been regularly invited by the Diocese of Munich to the Basilica of Ottobeuren and the Cathedral of Altemberg to give master classes in improvisation and the organ repertoire.
Alessandro Marangoni is the winner of several national and international competitions. He is renowned on the international scene thanks to important concert activity as a soloist at the main European festivals and his intense chamber music activity. He was born in 1979 and holds a doctorate from the University of Pavia. In December 2007 he made his début with Daniel Barenboim at the Teatro alla Scala in Milan. Some of his recent successes include a tour of Mozart concertos alongside the Amadeus Kammerorchester of the Mozarteum of Salzburg and the I Filarmonici Europei Orchestra.
With Quirino Príncipe he founded the duo Alexander Quirini and Quirino Alessandri, creating monographic programmes on Rossini, Chopin, and other great composers. He has held over one hundred concerts with enormous success in the virtual world of Second Life. He collaborates with the jazz musician and composer Sandro Cerino, with whom he recorded the album Sconfini. He won the prestigious Italian Critics Prize “F. Abbiati” and the International Classical Music Awards (ICMA). He is the artistic director of Forte Fortissimo TV and of the Almo Collegio Borromeo in Pavia (Italy).
Built in the 20th century by the prestigious organ builder Albert Blancafort and his team, the Auditorium's organ is considered a unique instrument for its design, sound, and musical ranges. The sounds are produced by 3,835 pipes that are housed in the walls of the emblematic Symphony Hall, which are controlled by the organist from on-stage through to where he is performing.
The tickets can be purchased at a single price of €15 on the website www.auditoriodetenerife.com, at the auditorium's box office, or by dialling the phone number 902 317 327 from Monday to Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Check the special discounts for the audience under 30 years of age, students, unemployed and large families.
Once the proposals are selected, a catalogue will be drafted and offered to educational centres in Tenerife for the school year 2023-2024
Theatre, dance, movement art companies and music groups on the island can now register for the new edition of "Teatro en la Escuela" (Theatre at School). The programme by the Auditorio de Tenerife is organised under the Island Council's Culture Area. After making a selection of the registered projects, they will create a catalogue with which the educational centres can apply for performances or creative processes for the next school year 2023-2024.
The rules of this programme organised by the Educational and Social Area of the Auditorium can now be checked on the website https://auditoriodetenerife.com/es/educativa-y-social/teatro-en-la-escuela. The selection will be undertaken by an assessment committee based on the criteria published and in accordance with the principles of objectivity, competition, and advertising.
The companies or groups must present their projects for shows or creative processes in the form of a dossier and accompanied by a teaching guide tailored to the age of the pupils it is aimed at, which can be for preschool, primary, secondary, baccalaureate education, and training cycles. The registration period ends on 23 June.
Professional theatre, dance, and movement arts companies can participate, along with music groups that have been legally established, with business addresses or permanent headquarters on the island of Tenerife. Projects that are supported by professionals (theatre, dance, and music) and multidisciplinary teams in the education sector, pedagogy, etc. will be favourably viewed.
In the case of shows, their duration must range between 45 and 75 minutes; in terms of creative processes, they will be counted as two shows and must be formed by five working sessions. Thus, each selected project can choose ten shows or five creative processes to implement throughout the year.
This eighth edition begins in September and runs until June 2024, coinciding with the school year. Just like every year, the advertising and coordination with the schools from the catalogue resulting from the selective process will be carried out by the team from the Auditorio de Tenerife.
The objectives of this programme notably include making students aware of performing and musical languages in their own educational context, as well as providing access to and disseminating the performing and music arts among pupils on the island. On the other hand, it is important to link academic aspects to the professional context of performing and musical arts in Tenerife.
Thus, another of the goals is to encourage values focused on dance and movement arts, relating to art, health, the body, and movement, linked to the artistic discipline of dance in a cross-cutting and cross-disciplinary way. In this regard, enriching and diversifying communicative, expressive, and creative possibilities through musical language is also included.
Encouraging the all-around development of students through arts and creating the foundations to encourage the socialisation of students within the school space through cultural activities are other aims of this initiative which is celebrating its seventh consecutive year.
On Thursday this week, the cellist Camille Thomas, who will play a Stradivarius from 1730, performs this programme with the pianist Julien Brocal
The Chamber Music Cycle of Auditorio de Tenerife presents the concert À mon ami - Chopin y Franchomme, el crepúsculo de los dioses (The twilight of gods), with the cellist Camille Thomas and the pianist Julien Brocal. The French musician will play in Tenerife the renowned Stradivarius Feuermann from 1730, on loan from Nippon Music Foundation, that belonged to Franchomme.
The programme is featured by the musicians and composers Frédéric Chopin (1810-1849) and August-Joseph Franchomme (1808-1884), whose friendship inspired Thomas for this concert. The last letter Chopin wrote in his life was to Franchomme and those where his words: “I love you and that's all what I can tell because I'm falling from sleep and weakness”.
At the twilight of his life, Chopin composed his sonata for cello and piano dedicating it to his dear friend, the cellist Franchomme. The day before his death Chopin asked to hear it and Franchomme, at his bedside in a salon in the Place Vendôme, played the second and third movements.
According to Camille Thomas, "it's like the testament of a life that ends in full swing, each note of the sonata reflects the immense human and artistic friendship that bonded both of them." Through music, they became immortal" explains the artist who highlights that "Chopin confessed that his favourite instrument was the cello and apart from piano compositions, he exclusively composed for this other instrument."
Optimism, vitality and joyful exuberance are elements of Camille Thomas's rich and compelling personality. The young Franco-Belgian cellist, who signed an exclusive contract with Deutsche Grammophon in April 2017, understands art's power to bring people together, to unite individuals from diverse cultures, countries and backgrounds. Thomas declared "I strongly believe that music has the power to enlarge the heart, to make you feel everything with more intensity, because music offers hope for the beauty and greatness of the soul."
Voice of Hope is her second Deutsche Grammophon’s album that was released in June 2020. It is the world premiere recording of Fazil's Concerto for Cello and Orchestra 'Never Give Up', the composer's response to terrorist attacks on Paris and Istanbul. It was written expressly for Thomas, who gave its world premiere performance in Paris in April 2018. It is the first classical album recorded in partnership with UNICEF, reflecting the cellist's desire to help others through her music.
Camille Thomas has already worked with such conductors as Paavo Järvi, Mikko Franck, Marc Soustrot, Darrell Ang, Kent Nagano, and Stéphane Denève, and with orchestras such as the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, Academia Santa Cecilia, the Sinfonia Varsovia, Staatsorchester Hamburg in the Elbphilharmonie, the Lucerne Festival Strings in the Herkulessaal in Munich, the Orchestre National de Bordeaux, and Brussels Philharmonic.
Named BBC Music Magazine's 2018 Revelation of the Year, Julien Brocal began learning the piano at the age of five and performed for the first time at the Salle Cortot (Paris) at the age of seven. He was spotted in January 2013 by Maria João Pires during an advanced course at the Cité de la Musique (Paris). She then invited him for an artistic residency at the Chapelle Musicale Reine Elisabeth in Belgium.
The pianist has offered several recitals around the world. Brocal is a regular chamber music partner of cellists Lidy Blijdorp, Camille Thomas and violinist Rosanne Philippens, co-organizing with pianist Julien Libeer the chamber music festival "Pause Festival" in La Donaira, Andalusia. In addition to playing in traditional halls, he has created in his studio a "Musical Garden" a creative ecosystem reflecting the principles of permaculture by providing a space to produce live performances, recordings and residencies.
Julien Brocal also works to bring music and the arts, to organize workshops to introduce classical music, and educational projects for children in difficulty. He has contributed to the development of the children's choir Equinoxe created by Maria João Pires. Likewise, he is involved as a conductor in the children's choir Singing Molenbeek which works in the schools of Molenbeek in Brussels. He has initiated regular sessions of Musical Breathing with the Doctor in psychology of emotions Ilios Kotsou.
The tickets are available on the website www.auditoriodetenerife.com, at the auditorium's box office or by dialling the phone number 902 317 327 from Monday to Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 05:00 p.m., Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 02:00 p.m. Check the special discounts for the audience under 30 years of age, students, unemployed and large families.

The symphonic poem Tannhäuser inspired by the opera created by Richard Wagner is being performed this weekend
Tannhäuser, a symphonic poem in three movements for choir and orchestra, based on the opera of the same name by Richard Wagner, is the closing show of the Opera of Tenerife this weekend with the participation on stage of over 9 people [Friday 9 and Saturday 10]. It will take place at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium's Symphony Hall with the participation on the stage of over 130 people: 78 musicians from the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra and 60 voices from the Resident Choir of the Intermezzo-Tenerife Opera, conducted by Pedro Halffter, author of the proposal that maintains the solemnity and legendary spirit of Wagner.
This version by the Madrid conductor and composer, who is coming to Tenerife after conducting Madame Butterfly at the Canadian Opera of Montreal, adapts the original production which lasts for over three hours to make it a great 90-minute concert. For Halffter, who conducted Florencia in the Amazon last season, Tannhäuser is “one of the most wonderful works” that he has had the opportunity to conduct many times.
It took him two years of work to create this symphonic poem with which he wanted to bring people closer to the work of the German maestro in a versatile way and it premièred in February 2020 at the symphony hall of the Miguel Delibes Cultural Centre in Valladolid. The concert is divided into three movements: Der Venusberg, Auf der Wartburg (The Wartburg), and Tannhäusers Pilgerfahrt (Tannhäuser's pilgrimage). “The music of Wagner is extraordinarily thrilling and I hope that this version will make people experience the grandeur of the opera Tannhäuser,” hopes Halffter.
The opera libretto brings together several medieval legends, all based on historical figures. The plot focuses on Tannhäuser, a knight and troubadour who enjoys carnal pleasures on Venusberg, or the Mountain of Venus, where he has lived for some time, seduced by the goddess of love. At one point, he decides to return to the world because he misses the love that is felt by other mortals.
He returns to the castle where his beloved Elisabeth lives and takes part in a singing competition in which the prize is the hand of his sweetheart. When Tannhäuser sings his song and extols the carnal love he experienced on Venusberg, everyone present, overwhelmed, accuses him of blasphemy and of being an abominable sinner. The knights prepare to strike him down with their swords, but Elizabeth intervenes and pleads for mercy, as she trusts that Tannhäuser will return to God. Suddenly, a choir of young pilgrims passing close to the castle is heard. Tannhäuser runs to join them and shouts “To Rome!” the only place where he can find forgiveness.
However, Tannhäuser returns from the Italian capital desolate because the pope has refused him absolution saying that, just as his old staff will never bloom, nor will he obtain forgiveness for his terrible sin. Tannhäuser declares that he only wishes to return to the arms of Venus. The goddess appears, and he goes towards her until a friend reminds him of Elisabeth. Venus vanishes and a procession approaches with the coffin of his sweetheart. He pleads for the lifeless body of Elisabeth to be prayed for, and he dies instantly. At that point, the chorus of pilgrims approaches again, bearing the staff of the pope which has completely bloomed: God had forgiven Tannhäuser.
Pedro Halffter has conducted on renowned stages like the Musikverein in Vienna, the Konzerthaus in Berlin, London's Queen Elizabeth Hall, the Théâtre du Chatelet of Paris, the Teatro Real in Madrid, the NCPA of Beijing, The Tchaikovsky Hall of Moscow, and the Verdi Theatre of Trieste. He has also conducted notable orchestras like the London Philharmonia Orchestra, Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks, Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, Staatskapelle Berlin, Dresdner Philharmonie, Sinfonica Nazionale della RAI, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino and the most important symphony orchestras of Spain.
He worked as artistic director for the Maestranza Theatre of Seville, for the Real Orquesta Sinfónica of Seville, and the Orquesta Filarmónica of Gran Canaria. He was the main guest conductor of the Nürnberger Symphoniker and the main conductor of the Young Orchestra during the Bayreuth Festival. He has recorded for leading labels such as Deutsche Grammophon, Warner Music, and Warner Classics.
The Opera de Tenerife is an initiative organised by the Island Council through the Auditorio de Tenerife with the collaboration of the ICDC (Regional Institute of Cultural Development) and the INAEM (National Institute of Performing Arts and Music).

The Auditorio de Tenerife regrets to communicate that the tenor Jorge de León had to cancel his performance during the season 2023-2024 of Opera de Tenerife, according to the singer's agency. As this institution previously informed during the presentation of the season, De León was going to participate in the concert version of Samson et Dalila that is programmed for 9 December 2023.
Through his agency, the tenor sent a message to the Auditorio de Tenerife whereby he mentioned that "he is not at the right time to prepare for the role of Samson and will therefore not take part in the production".
