The three wind ensembles headline the Primavera Musical event

The Auditorio de Tenerife hosts a Primavera Musical concert this Sunday, 24 May, featuring the wind band Virgen de la Luz from Guía de Isora, Agrupación Musical Garachico, and the Santiago del Teide band. The Wind Bands Federation, ‘Federación Tinerfeña de Bandas de Música,’ supported by the Tenerife Island Council, organises the event, which starts at 11:30 a.m. in the Chamber Hall. Entry is free until capacity is reached.

The Virgen de la Luz band, with more than 30 years of musical experience and a line-up of 60 musicians, opens this Sunday’s concert at the Auditorio de Tenerife. Antonio Fariña conducts the ensemble as they perform two pieces: El volcán de Cumbre Vieja by José Luis Peiró, and Dixieland Jam by Bow Lowden.

Agrupación Musical Garachico takes the stage next at the Chamber Hall. Founded around 1859 to enrich the municipality’s cultural life, the wind band has operated under the direction of Antonio Jesús Gutiérrez since 1988. He will lead the 40 musicians in a programme devoted to their town: the pasodoble Garachico, by Sergio Infante Pérez, which won first prize in the Tenerife Wind Bands Federation’s composition competition, and Garachico 1706-2006, a piece written to commemorate the third centenary of the volcanic eruption suffered by the municipality.

The Santiago del Teide wind band, with more than three decades of stage experience, concludes the concert. Jorge Pujol directs the ensemble as they perform Música y vinos by Manuel Morales Martínez, Voyage by Satoshi Yagisawa, and close the evening with Sing, Sing, Sing by Louis Prima in Naohiro Iwai’s arrangement, featuring Yonathan García and Jonat Cuadrado as soloists.

The next event in the Primavera Musical series will take place in June, when this initiative organised by the Tenerife Wind Bands Federation comes to a close. On 7 June, the musical groups from Orotava, San Juan de la Rambla and Puerto de la Cruz will take to the stage; on 14 June, it will be the turn of the wind bands Amigos del Artes (Güímar), Santísimo Cristo de El Calvario (El Tanque), Crearte (Tejina, La Laguna) and Amigos del Arte (San Andrés, Santa Cruz).

The final concert in this edition of Primavera Musical will take place on 21 June and will feature four ensembles: La Candelaria (Arafo), Filarmónica de Los Realejos, El Salvador (La Matanza) and, as guest ensemble, the band of the Patronato Insular de El Hierro.
