The programme for next Tuesday (20th) includes works by Beethoven, Liatoshinsky and Liszt

Next Tuesday (20 October), at 7.30 pm, the Auditorio de Tenerife will welcome Ukrainian pianist Vadym Kholodenko to its Chamber Music Hall for a recital featuring Romantic works composed in the first half of the 19th century by Beethoven, Liatoshinsky and Liszt.

Kholodenko will open his Tenerife recital with Ludwig van Beethoven’s Piano Sonata No. 29 in B-flat major, Op. 106, known as the Hammerklavier Sonata. Lasting approximately 45 minutes, it is Beethoven’s longest piano sonata and one of the most technically demanding works in the piano repertoire.

The second half of the concert will begin with Three Preludes, Op. 38, by Ukrainian composer Borys Lyatoshynsky. Written in 1942, during the Second World War, the work reflects the composer’s intensely expressive and dramatic musical language.

The recital will conclude with Franz Liszt’s Études d’exécution transcendante d’après Paganini, S. 140. Inspired by the extraordinary virtuosity of Niccolò Paganini, whose violin playing Caprices for violin profoundly impressed Liszt, these studies explore the technical and expressive possibilities of the piano, pushing the instrument to its limits.

Born in Kyiv, Ukraine, Vadym Kholodenko began studying the piano at the age of six and embarked on international tours at thirteen. He studied at the Lysenko State Music Lyceum in Kyiv and the Tchaikovsky State Conservatoire in Moscow under distinguished teachers Natalia Gridneva, Borys Fedorov and Vera Gornostaeva.

Combining passionate musicianship with an exceptionally wide-ranging repertoire and an interpretative sensitivity bordering on the poetic, Kholodenko won the gold medal at the prestigious Van Cliburn International Piano Competition. His exceptional artistry has led to invitations to perform with some of the world’s leading orchestras and at major concert venues.
