 Auditorio de Tenerife (Symphony Hall)

The legendary master of historically informed revisionism, conductor Reinhard Goebel, and the Sinfónica de Tenerife take spectators on a journey that begins with the visionary spirit of Monteverdi, continues through the renaissance of the Baroque, and reaches its destination with the creative affirmation of Beethoven.

The evening begins with Jean-Féry Rebel’s The Elements: Chaos, a surprisingly bold work for its time that speaks to the initial state of disarray of the universe in unprecedented harmonic language. The concert continues with three revolutionary visions from the Baroque repertoire: Locatelli’s overpowering virtuosity, Gluck’s renewed dramatism and Monteverdi’s emotional theatricality. All shattered barriers, expanded extant musical language, and explored new possibilities.

The programme concludes with Beethoven’s Symphony No. 1, opening a window to the 19th century with the ground-breaking dissonance at the beginning of the work. Although it drew on roots found in classic forms, its energy, rhythmic drive, and vitality announced the arrival of a free spirit who would forever change the course of music history.
