Composition Premières Concerto by the Higher Music Conservatory of the Canary Islands
1 Shows
25 Apr 18:00
Music/HIGHER MUSIC CONSERVATORY OF THE CANARIES
 Auditorio de Tenerife (Chamber Hall)

Synopsis

The event includes participation from composition, performance, and musicology students at the institution, as well as external collaborators. The musicology students in charge of introducing and reviewing the works are: Jorge Izquierdo Cruz, María Sánchez García, María Victoria Hernández, Estrella Duque González, Samuel Pérez Pérez and Daniel Salvador Vargas Otazo.

The concert programme comprises eight premiere pieces performed by various ensembles and in various styles.

The concert opens with I’m in Love with a Lizard by Alejandro Arbelo Martín, for voice and piano—a work that evokes the sound and humorous character of recent American musicals. Next is Fantasía para trompeta y piano by Adrián Pastor Cebrian, achieving a balance between expressive depth and technical challenge for the trumpet. Tres Danzas para Rondalla by Jaime González Afonso follows, presenting three miniature works for a folk ensemble and featuring a strongly traditional idiom. In contrast, Tango by María Sánchez García merges rhythmic patterns from tango with contemporary compositional approaches. The program continues with Sueños Desagradables by Marcos Trujillo Díaz, which uses both pre-recorded and live electroacoustic techniques. Afterwards, El Mapache by Adriano Porcheddu—written for string quartet—features melody-and-accompaniment texture, consonant sonorities, and traditional performance techniques, creating a strong contrast with the preceding work. Pioneros, by Jorge Guerrero Rodríguez, serves as a musical tribute to astrophysicist Francisco Sánchez, who passed away in 2025, and offers a sound world inspired by cinematic storytelling. The concert concludes with Delirio de grandeza by Alberto Díaz González, employing extended techniques and a large ensemble to achieve the textures envisioned by the composer.
