La gran cacería
Synopsis
Auditorio de Tenerife has scheduled in its La Salita hall the play La gran cacería, written by Juan Mayorga. Following two versions directed by Mayorga and respectively interpreted by Will Keen and Alberto San Juan, this third version stars Mayorga and is directed by Luz Arcas (La Phármaco, 2024 National Dance Award). After the performance on Friday the 19th, there will be a talk with the public moderated by the students of Canary Islands Acting School as part of a collaboration agreement with the Auditorio de Tenerife.
La gran cacería is a production of Teatro del Barrio (2024 Spanish National Theatre Award) that premiered at the 41st Autumn Festival in November 2023 at the venue La Cuarta Pared.
Can anyone really sleep easily?
One sleepless night, a traveller, whose words are spoken by the author himself, crosses the Mediterranean, the richest sea in history and stories. The traveller is returning to the continent from Sicily, and, at this dark hour, as his vessel crosses the waters once known as Mare Nostrum, he experiences continual flashbacks of images of ‘La gran cacería’ (The Great Hunt), a Roman mosaic that he has found during his stay in Sicily.
The play is an inquiry of Juan Mayorga. As a playwright, stage director, educator, member of the Spanish Royal Academy, the art director of La Abadía Theatre, winner of the Spanish National Theatre Award and the Premio Princesa de Asturias literary award, he defines himself as an apprentice. Mayorga is a storyteller and a lover of theatre, which he ceaselessly explores through writing and direction. La gran cacería is a piece of ongoing research jointly undertaken by Mayorga and Teatro del Barrio from the start.
