Pablo Sáinz-Villegas

As part of its Chamber Music Series, the Auditorio de Tenerife welcomes Pablo Sainz-Villegas, internationally acclaimed as the heir to Andrés Segovia and described by Billboard as “the global ambassador of the Spanish guitar”. He made history as the first guitar soloist to perform at Carnegie Hall since Andrés Segovia and the first guitarist to appear in the Berlin Philharmonic’s New Year’s Eve Concert under the baton of Kirill Petrenko.

Following his debut with the New York Philharmonic, conducted by Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos at Lincoln Centre’s Avery Fisher Hall, Sainz-Villegas has performed in more than forty countries. He has appeared with leading orchestras including the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, The Philadelphia Orchestra, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich, the Munich Philharmonic and the Spanish National Orchestra. His international career has taken him to some of the world’s most prestigious concert halls, among them Moscow’s Tchaikovsky Concert Hall, Vienna’s Musikverein, Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw, the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing, Tokyo’s Suntory Hall and Buenos Aires’ Teatro Colón.

Among the highlights of his career are appearances at the Princess of Asturias Awards Concert and the Metropolitan Opera Gala at the Palace of Versailles. He has also performed before audiences of extraordinary scale, including a concert at Madrid’s Santiago Bernabéu Stadium attended by more than 85,000 people, as well as performances at Chicago’s Grant Park, Lisbon’s Praça do Comércio and the Hollywood Bowl with the Los Angeles Philharmonic.

Deeply committed to music’s social impact, Sainz-Villegas has performed for more than 45,000 children around the world through his non-profit organisation Strings in Common. He is also the founder and Artistic Director of the La Rioja Festival and a member of the Academia de las Artes Escénicas de España.
