When music decides to reinvent itself, it does so, dancing on the edge of the unknown. Ravel’s La Valse breaks down the glamour of the waltz to reveal its most acrid and spectral side: a tribute and a farewell to pre-WWI Europe. The composer’s Piano Concerto in G major combines French lyricism with the vibrant impulse of jazz in an unprecedented foray into unexplored artistic territory.
A kindred soul in terms of audaciousness, Gershwin used jazz as a vehicle for symphonic creation in his Rhapsody in Blue. His An American in Paris portrays the French capital as a city full of light, chaos, crossed rhythms, and electric dreams.
With the vitality of pianist Noelia Rodiles and the energy of conductor Karen Kamensek, the Sinfónica de Tenerife celebrates the visionary spirit that took American jazz to concert halls. This lovely evening is an opportunity for spectators to dance, dream and open their hearts during the year-end holidays.
