He is considered by the critics as one of the most outstanding cellists of his generation. As a soloist he has collaborated with some of the most important international orchestras: Philharmonia Orchestra, London Symphony Orchestra, Danish National Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionalle della RAI, Orchester de Paris, BBC Philharmonic, Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, Konzerthausorchester Berlin and Orquesta Nacional de España, among many others. Composers like Gabriel Erkoreka, Jesús Torres, Luis de Pablo, Jesús Villa-Rojo and Antón García Abril have dedicated their cello concerts. Among the numerous awards he has received are the “Ojo Crítico” Award from RNE (2002), Fundación CEOE Prize for Musical Performance (2004). In addition, he was named “Ilustre de Bilbao” (2009). Asier Polo plays a cello Francesco Rugieri (Cremona 1689) donated by the Banco Santander Foundation.
