Delirium stages Antonio Tabares’s play for three further performances, all of which are sold out.
La Salita, Auditorio de Tenerife’s theatre programme, opens its new season this weekend with a revival of Libros cruzados (Bookcrossing), by playwright Antonio Tabares, in a production by Delirium Teatro. This co-production between the company and Auditorio de Tenerife, previously formed part of 40 Delirios, the programme celebrating the Tenerife-based company’s four decades of artistic activity. Performances will take place on Friday and Saturday at 7.30 p.m. and on Sunday at 12 noon. All three performances are sold out.
The play centres on a book that passes from hand to hand: a copy of Leo Tolstoy’s Anna Karenina. Its pages prompt three women to reassess their lives. Mariana, a museum security guard, realises that she is trapped in a dull and meaningless existence. Patricia, a novelist, begins to question both her writing and the honesty of her relationship. Silvia finds solace in Tolstoy’s words as she struggles with grief. Libros cruzados is a work born out of a love of literature, exploring the power of books to cast new light on our lives and help us navigate the complexities of existence.
The cast comprises Soraya González del Rosario, Joche Rubio, Maday Méndez, Silvia Criado, Abel Moral, Carmen Cabeza, Vicente Ayala, Joel Morales, Dani Sanginés, Mabel Quintero, Delia Hernández and Ignacio de la Lastra. Severiano García directs the production, with Julio Tejera as musical director and composer.
In addition to the three performances, a presentation of the published edition of the play will take place on Thursday, 24 September, at 6.00 p.m., with free admission subject to availability. Auditorio de Tenerife is co-publishing Libros cruzados by Antonio Tabares with Ediciones Antígona. The launch of this second title in the Malpaís collection will be attended by Conchita Piña, director of Ediciones Antígona, and the author himself.
Malpaís is a new publishing imprint specialising in opera, the performing arts and music, supported by the Tenerife Island Council through Auditorio de Tenerife. Launched in collaboration with Ediciones Antígona, an established publisher of Spanish-language drama, the collection now welcomes Tabares alongside authors such as Juan Mayorga, María Goiricelaya and Alfredo Sanzol.
