ADIÓS A LA BOHEMIA
Synopsis
To end the 2025 season, Ópera de Tenerife presents Adiós a la bohemia, a small-scale opera by Pablo Sorozábal and Pío Baroja. This staging features a theatrical prologue depicting a dialogue between both creators.
An intimate, melancholic production with touches of humor and moments that show how fascinating the lives of those who fight for their dreams can be, even if they don’t achieve them. This work tells us about failure and the frustration and marginalization that accompany it. Marked by a continuous narrative, music and scene go hand in hand with Pío Baroja’s solid text.
Pablo Sorozábal’s composition masterfully expresses the emotions of the characters. With his ironic stamp, we find romances, duets, habaneras, and other references to popular folklore, but we can also appreciate the Central European influence in the musical textures and sounds of the orchestra, which Sorozábal knew so well after his studies in Germany.
All this is introduced by a theatrical prologue in the form of a dialogue between Pío Baroja and Pablo Sorozábal, which presents the genesis of this “ópera chica” (small opera), as Sorozábal called it, and which takes place in a neighborhood café with little charm and many stories to tell.
