Wigmore Soloists
Synopsis
The Wigmore Soloists is a chamber ensemble bringing together an exceptional roster of musicians under the artistic direction of Michael Collins. Established in collaboration with Wigmore Hall’s Director, John Gilhooly, the ensemble explores both the traditional chamber music repertoire and contemporary works, while commissioning leading composers to enrich the chamber music canon. With a flexible core formation comprising a string quintet, wind quintet and piano, the group performs an exceptionally broad repertoire and is committed to bringing both familiar masterpieces and lesser-known works to audiences at the highest artistic level.
Named after one of the world’s most renowned concert halls—the first ensemble ever to receive this distinction—the Wigmore Soloists appear regularly at Wigmore Hall and at major venues around the world. Their recordings for BIS Records have been widely acclaimed by critics, earning praise from Gramophone, BBC Music Magazine and The Strad, as well as a Diapason d’Or for their 2023 recording of the Berwald and Beethoven Septets. Their latest BIS release, featuring Brahms’s chamber works, is scheduled for release in winter 2026.
Since its formation in 2021, the ensemble has performed at leading international venues including the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the National Concert Hall in Dublin, Yamaha Hall in Tokyo, the Sociedad Filarmónica de Bilbao and the CSO ADA Concert Hall, alongside its regular series at Wigmore Hall. The 2025/26 season includes a tour of Southern Europe and the ensemble’s debut at the Auditorio de Tenerife.
