Main Choir Ópera de Tenerife – Intermezzo
The Coro Titular Ópera de Tenerife – Intermezzo adapts to the requirements of each operatic work by varying the number of its performers, providing larger or smaller vocal ensembles on each occasion. It is led by choir directors Pablo Moras or Miguel Ángel Arqued, depending on the production, and Carmen Cruz is the choir’s honorary director.
Since its formal commencement in 2004, Intermezzo has selected, coordinated, backed up and managed choirs, especially in the world of opera. Its dedicated teamwork and clear and proven production methods have allowed it to become the leader among operatic vocal ensembles. In 2009, Coro Intermezzo – Coro Titular del Teatro Real was created, and Coro Intermezzo – Coro Titular de la Ópera de Oviedo was formed in 2021. Adding to this was the launching of the Tenerife Opera Choir in the 2022-23 season.
The 2021 Ópera Actual awards chose Intermezzo as the best organisation based on its professional accomplishments. The quality and experience of its performers and supporting staff are reflected in the choir’s engagements with the best stage directors and conductors around the globe, in both classic and contemporary productions, as well as several world premieres. The choir serves as a guarantee of quality, made possible by the rigorous audition protocols of its performers and the skilled guidance of its administrative and production staff.
Intermezzo’s excellence is further ensured by the ISO 9001 certification it has held since 2011 in the European culture sector, a milestone in Spanish opera. Intermezzo is a member of the Opera Europa international network of theatres, festivals and opera companies.
