The Main Choir Ópera de Tenerife-Intermezzo meets the needs of each opera title by varying the number of members, forming smaller or stronger groups for each occasion. The choir works under the direction of Pablo Moras or Miguel Ángel Arqued and its honorary conductor is Carmen Cruz.
Intermezzo was established in 2004 and ever since it selects, coordinates, strengthens and manages choirs, especially for opera. Teamwork and clear and successful production procedures have allowed it to grow to become the reference company in the world of lyric choirs. The Coro Intermezzo - Main Choir of Teatro Real was set up in 2009 and the Coro Intermezzo - Main Choir of Ópera de Oviedo was founded in 2021. Now the main choir of Opera de Tenerife is also a member of it.
The ‘Opera Actual’ Awards 2021 have distinguished Intermezzo as an institution conferring it the Prize for the best career. The quality and experience of Intermezzo's artistic team are guaranteed by the work with the best international stage and orchestra directors in the classical and contemporary shows in which it has participated, as well as in several world premières. Intermezzo's strongest guarantee of assurance is given by its singers, who are selected by demanding audition protocols. Likewise, they are directed by their experienced management and production team.
To ensure excellence, since 2011 Intermezzo has been accredited with the ISO 9001 Quality Management System certification for the cultural sector at the European level, a significant milestone for Spanish opera. In addition, it is a member of Open Europa, the international theatres, festivals and opera institutions.
